Workout Plan for Men Over 40
Why do men over 40 need a different workout plan?
Training in your 40s requires a shift in approach, not a reduction in ambition. You can still build significant strength and muscle, but exercise selection and recovery management become more important as testosterone levels gradually decline and joints need more care.
How is the men's over-40 plan structured?
This 4-day program uses a mix of barbell, dumbbell, cable, and machine exercises. Barbell work stays for key compound lifts like bench, squat, and deadlift, but machines and cables handle accessory work to reduce cumulative joint loading. Two upper and two lower sessions train everything twice per week.
What recovery habits matter most for men over 40?
Prioritise 7-8 hours of sleep, protein intake of 2g per kg of body weight, and stress management. These factors have a far greater impact on training results in your 40s than they did in your 20s. Always warm up thoroughly and include face pulls and mobility work in every session.
